PAFERN Conducts Training-Workshop on Documentation and Assessment of Different Agroforestry Models in the Philippines

PAFERN organized a two-day Training-Workshop on Documentation and Assessment of Different Agroforestry Models in the Philippines".  Held on May 14-15, 2009 at the University of the Philippines Los Banos, this training-workshop aimed to: a) share the UPLB-IAF's experiences in conducting the documentation and assessment of agroforestry models; b) review and improve the data gathering guide; c) enhance knowledge and skills in conducting biodiversity assessment and carbon stock assessment; and, d) identify the potential agroforestry models for documentation by the participating faculty members.

The two-day training-workshop wa participated y representatives from 15 PAFERN member-institutions, which would also serve as the collaborating institutions of the PAFERN's special project entitled "Building Institutional Capacities on Documentation and Assessment of Different Agroforestry Models in the Philippines".  These include the Benguet State University (BSU); Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST); Kalinga-Apayao State College (KASC); MOuntain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC); Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU); Isabela State University (ISU); Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC); Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT); Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC); Aklan State University (ASU); Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology(MOSCAT); Central Mindanao University (CMU); Southern Philippines Agribusiness, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST); and Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology (SNCAT).

The 15 PAFERN member-institutions, through their respective institutional heads, have expressed their willingess and commitment to provide funds to their participating faculty members to conduct the documentation and assessment of different agroforestry models in their respective areas from June to July 2009.  They have also agreed to share the research results to to PAFERN Secretariat for consolidation and submission to SEANAFE in August 2009.
