2nd World Congress on Agroforestry Slated in 2009
"Agroforestry -- The Future of Global Land Use" is the overall theme of the 2nd World Congress on Agroforestry to be held on August 23-28, 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya. The 2nd World Congress on Agroforestry will assess opportunities to leverage scientific agroforestry in promoting sustainable land use worldwide. It will serve as a forum for agroforestry researchers, educators, practitioners and policies from around the world to: a) share new research findings, lessons, experiences and ideas that will help influence decisions that impact on livelihoods and the global environment; b) explore new opportunities and cement existing partnerships in agroforestry research, education, training and development; and, c) form new networks and communities of practice, and nurture old ones.
Plenary, symposia, concurrent sessions and poster sessions will be organized around the following:
a) markets as opportunities and drivers of agroforestry land use;
b) tree-based rehabilitation of degraded lands and watersheds;
c) climate change adaptation and mitigation;
d) agroforestry's contribution to a mltifunctional agriculture combining productivity with environmental sustainability; and,
e) policy options and institutional innovations for agroforestry land use |
